Brett Ian Newton, 47, was one of three inmates caught with mobile phones at the South Nowra jail complex who appeared in Nowra Local Court on Monday, October 14.
Newton pleaded guilty to possessing a mobile phone in a place of detention and possessing a prohibited drug.
Court papers said Newton was seen by prison officers putting a Woolworths plastic bag down his pants in a minimum-security section of the jail around 9am on August 2.
The court heard the bag had allegedly been thrown over the jail's fence by an unknown person in a car.
Officers took Newton to a secure area and a search revealed the bag contained five mobile phones, along with a number of sim cards and phone chargers.
Officers also found two small balloons which contained 4.9 grams of methylamphetamine.
Other contraband such as cigarette papers and lighters were also discovered.
The court was told Newton had been eligible for release on October 19.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming sentenced him to an additional four months' jail which will come into effect from December 10.
Police said despite investigations they had not been able to identify the driver or the vehicle.
Fellow inmate Mohammed Wasim Ali, 27, did not enter any pleas to charges of possessing a mobile phone and using or possessing a mobile phone in a place of detention.
Court papers allege Ali was found with a black Alcatel mobile phone and USB charger cable at the South Coast Correctional Centre between 7.45pm and 9.14pm on May 31.
He will reappear in court in November.
Kane Robertson, 28, did not enter any pleas to possessing a mobile phone and using or possessing a mobile phone in a place of detention after allegedly being caught with a black Telstra mobile phone and USB charger and charger cable at the South Nowra Jail between 5.20pm and 5.50pm on June 3.
He will reappear later this month.
