The Coalition announced during the federal election campaign earlier this year, if re-elected it was committed to find funding for the $5 million centre.
But following the Coalition's election win there has been no news on the proposed centre.
When contacted by Australia Community Media, the department said conversations were being held with the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs and a site survey would be conducted to progress the plans.

"In mid-October 2019 there will be a site survey conducted with local, state and federal entities, including ex-service organisations, to progress plans for the Veterans' Wellbeing Centre in Nowra," the spokesperson said.
The centre, one of six to be established throughout Australia, would aim to integrate government and non-government support for Australians who have served in defence forces with local health services community organisations, advocacy and support.
The federal government announced its plan to provide more support for veterans on the eve of Anzac Day this year, with the Nowra centre to be operational by 2020, although at the time no location had been determined.
"The Nowra Veterans' Wellbeing Centre presents an opportunity to provide local solutions to local issues affecting veterans and their families, providing a central point for veterans and their families to access assistance from government, health services, ex-service organisations and community groups working in partnership together to support veteran wellbeing," the spokesperson said.
