As if we hadn't had our fill of elections this year, local politicians have unofficially kicked off the local government contest, which isn't due until September next year. The old war horse Greg Watson announced his ticket for ward one, while the Liberal Party voted to stand its own ticket under the blue party banner. Former mayor and Liberal MP Jo Gash said she wouldn't have a bar of a party ticket so wouldn't be seeking preselection.

Also racing but in an entirely different competition is Shoalhaven cricketer Nic Maddinson, who scored his first double century in a Sheffield Shield match, playing for Victoria. Well done, Nic.
Making a clean sweep during the week were Shoalhaven's beaches which were once again ranked among the cleanest in the state. We should all be proud.
Also trying to keep things clean is the Nowra Aboriginal Land Council, which received a state government grant to help it combat illegal dumping.
