He has played in the NRL, overseas and now the bruising forward will play on Sunday's grand final day.
The Culburra Dolphins product and his Queensland based Burleigh Bears teammates will play in Sunday's NRL State Championship against the famous Newtown Jets at ANZ Stadium.
The Bears defeated the Wynnum Manly Seagulls 28-10 in Queensland's Intrust Cup grand final last Sunday at Dolphin Stadium, Brisbane to book their place in the State Cup.
To say Buchanan had an interesting led up to the grand final is putting things lightly.
His wife Madeleine gave birth to their daughter Harper on Sunday morning.
The Buchanan's were up all night Saturday, with Harper arriving at 6.30 am Sunday morning.
Jack them got on the bus to play 55 minutes in the front row for the grand final winning Bears.
He will be hoping the lead up to Sunday's match against the Bluebags is not as dramatic.
Buchanan said both Madeleine and Harper are doing well.
"They have got the clearance to come down for the game on Sunday which is great," he said.
The front-rower still has lots of family down in the Culburra Beach area, including parents Ray and Cindy who have tickets to watch the Bears take on the Jets.
Buchanan says playing on NRL grand final day rates high on his list of achievements.
"I would rate this Sunday's match up there with my NRL debut with the Wests Tigers back in 2013," he said.
The Bears player said the team did celebrate winning the Intrust Cup grand final but their focus was now on the Jets.
"I don't know too much about them but they are a big strong team and they have a lot of fulltime players as they are a feeder team to the Cronulla Sharks," he said.
Sunday's game kicks off at 1.35 pm.

The Bears did reach the State Cup final in 2016 and suffered a 54-12 loss to the Illawarra Cutters.
Buchanan said including inspirational prop Luke Page six players from 2016 team were still with the Bears and their experience will be vital.
"I know it sounds like a cliché but Luke is one of those players everyone wants to play with - he is unreal," he said.
"We are a tight group of blokes which I think is one of our strengths."
Buchanan has been offered a contract for next season with the Bears which he is keen to take up.
He did not rule out coming back home to play in Group Seven.
The Jets in the meantime got its place in the State Cup by defeating the Wentworthville Magpies.
Newtown won Canterbury Cup grand final on Sunday at Bankwest Stadium 20-15 in an extra-time thriller.
Fullback William Kennedy scored the match-winner to hand the Jets their first premiership since 2012.
