It will be held at the Berry School of Arts from 7.30pm.
The Power and Glory of British Country Houses: their Evolution and Changing Role, will be presented by Anthony Russell.
It is often argued that Britain possesses the finest collection of 'living' stately homes in the world. They represent one of the country's greatest assets and its greatest contribution to the decorative arts worldwide.
This lecture goes back in time to explain their origins in British history, the changing nature of society, and the way country houses have evolved.
This journey illustrates the most magnificent examples in all their grandeur and beauty and reveals the impact they have had on society.
Consideration is given to the changing roles of the homes and if they still exert a powerful hold. How should we look on them today, and how are they to survive and evolve in the future?
The lecturer is a cultural historian, writer and artist.
Entry is included with membership or $25 cash or card at the door, which includes supper and wine.
A short AGM will be held at the end of the meeting, followed by a celebratory supper.
At the AGM, the 2020 program will be announced and the new committee will be introduced. There will be an opportunity to join or renew memberships for 2020.
