The Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) resource is launched in October every year to coincide with Mental Health Month.

Alison Tye, a RAMHP coordinator for Illawarra Shoalhaven and South Western Sydney Local Health Districts will share the guide at the upcoming event on Friday, October 11 at Parramatta Park, East Nowra.

The annual event will be held during Anti-Poverty Week from 8.30am to 11.30am.

Alison will also have an information stall in the canteen at the University of Wollongong Campus from 10am- 2pm on October 10, 15 and 25.

There will also be games for the kids, lucky draw prizes, entertainment and performers, and interactive stalls.

A free barbecue will mean no-one will go home hungry.

The annual event is a joint initiative between the Shoalhaven Anti-Poverty Committee and Shoalhaven City Council.

About Mental Health Month

This year's theme for Mental Health Month is 'Share the Journey'.

Although that's been the theme since 2017, this year things will be a bit different.

This year we're looking at connection both in terms of ways an individual can connect, but also the things we can all do to create communities where people feel safer and more connected when things aren't going well.

Nearly half of all Australians (45 per cent) will experience some form of mental illness during their lifetime, and those that don't will most likely know someone that does.

Share the Journey is all about ways we can connect with others, both for our own health and wellbeing, as well as theirs.

Sharing the journey can mean many things:

Whether you reach out to someone who might be feeling a bit lost or find a way to connect with others when you need some help, building positive social connection is something we can all try and do.
