A book sale will be held in the RFS satellite station, on the main road of Cambewarra Village, where the RFS will also be handing out bushfire survival kits.

The Get Ready Weekend is part of the RFS' plan to prepare communities for the upcoming fire season, which has already started in northern NSW.

Volunteer Firefighter at Cambewarra, Amanda Saxton, said that now is a time when the community need to group together.

"Certainly watching around the state, it's a bit nerve wracking," she said, "This is a good way for the community to come and meet us. We all go through the Get Ready booklets and fire evacuation drills, so it's a good way of getting prepared and getting your house prepared for the fire season."

NSW RFS Superintendent Mark Williams said ongoing drought conditions meant there was a hazardous fire season ahead, and Shoalhaven residents should do everything they can to get prepared.

"Already in NSW we've seen more than 2700 bush and grass fires," He said, "Volunteer firefighters will be available to talk to about the simple things you can do to reduce your bushfire risk, like having a bushfire survival plan."

Ms. Saxton said the event would include firefighting displays, a sausage sizzle, a jumping castle, and a chance for people of all ages to play on the firetrucks.

All proceeds will be going towards the Cambewarra fire brigade, and any specialty equipment the brigade need for the fire season.

Ms Saxton said the brigade will also be recruiting volunteers, as the Cambewarra RFS needs more active and auxiliary members to help manage the workload.

"Our active members have got a really strong call," she said, "Nine times out of then, we'll get a truck out. Auxiliary members are absolutely awesome with making sure we're all okay, and helping us through.

"If it wasn't for the community we wouldn't be here at the end of the day, and we're about supporting them as much as them supporting us. We're the first ones there if there's a house fire or a bushfire, so they do need to be conscious that we're here for them."

The fundraiser will be open from nine o'clock to three pm, and will showcase members from the local ambulance service. Ms Saxton also recommends to look online at the RFS website, for information about the fire survival plans, evacuation points, and being properly prepared.
