Edna had a wonderful childhood growing up in Newtown with her friend Cath and holidaying at her aunts in Thirroul.
After marrying Roy Shute they moved to Matraville into a lovely new house and had six children.
Edna was an only child so there was nothing she wanted more than a big family of her own. She absolutely loved all her babies.
Many Sundays were spent swimming and picnicking at Congi Beach La Perouse. The family spent the school holidays at St Georges Basin in their holiday home.
There were years of wonderful memories of swimming in the Basin and the beaches of Jervis Bay, prawning and bonfires. Edna and Roy later retired to Vincentia, enjoying the lifestyle of the area.
Edna played tennis and taught catechism in the local school for 23 years. Edna was energetic and full of life, walking the beaches daily and swimming in the bay.
Roy played golf and started the radio show 'Strolling down memory lane' at the local station.
Roy also painted in the park at Huskisson for many years.
Edna was a family person at heart and embraced all her children and grandchildren and missed her daughters who lived in Sydney. Her children would often be visiting for weekends.
Edna had a wonderful relationship with all her children and grandchildren right up until her passing.
Edna and Roy were married for 70 years. Edna spent the last six weeks of her life living with family in Sydney as Roy went into respite in St John Paul Village Nursing Home.
Edna joined him there for four days before passing away peacefully. Her little heart gave up in the end.
Edna was a great matriarch, always fun and cheerful and she always looked immaculate. She is greatly missed by all.
