On Friday, September 6, volunteer Cathie Reed attended the Illawarra ceremony for the Centre for Volunteering Annual Awards.
Cathie was awarded the Adult Volunteer of the Year in the Illawarra Region for her dedication over the past six years to helping people in the Jervis Bay area access healthy home-cooked meals.
Cathie's role is to source produce, organise menus and prepare meals at the Jervis Bay and District Meals on Wheels.
Shoalhaven Heads Meals on Wheels also attended the Shoalhaven Superheroes Volunteer 'Service and Beyond' Awards and were the winners of the Health and Aged Care section.
Manager Lisa Burns said the team is thrilled with both wins.
"This is wonderful recognition for all of our hard-working volunteers," she said.
"We celebrate with and congratulate Cathie and Shoalhaven Head Meals on Wheels on receiving their awards."
In addition to these awards, North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels has also been successful in the community voting round of the My Community Project program.
They can now start the process of redesigning the Bomaderry Kitchen to a more functional workspace for volunteers as it moves to a Meal Distribution Centre.
"We would like to extend our thanks to the community that saw the value in our project and got behind it by voting," Lisa said.
"We have been overwhelmed by the community support."
The Bomaderry kitchen currently delivers more than 100 meals a day. The funding will help with the redesign of the kitchen to increase and improve the service.
In time it will give current and future clients a greater range of meals and choice. All of the meals delivered by Meals on Wheels meet the National Meals Guidelines as set out in 2016.
North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels is always seeking new volunteers. As well as drivers, cooks and deliverers, they're looking for volunteers who could help in the areas of administration, bookkeeping and promotion and are especially looking for volunteers to join the new program, Meals2gether, visiting isolated and house bound clients.
North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels acknowledged all the hard work by all the other applicants and sponsors across the community.
