Based in Adelaide, where she hosts the concert series Soundstream, Gabriella Smart has developed a close relationship with Bundanon Trust as its 2018 Prelude composer in residence at Beaumont Cottage. This rising star of the Australian chamber music world followed her Prelude residency travelling and performing in Europe, where she connected with Piper. Together, they developed Lilith Night featuring all female composers.
"There is so much to love about the talented, vibrant, charming, Gabriella Smart and her constantly evolving and fearless vision which she follows with seemingly endless supplies of energy, passion and ideas," acclaimed musician Elena Kats Chernin said. "She is a true advocate for new work, challenging, motivating and inspiring composers to create works that have relevance not just for the music's sake but also because of the stories behind them."
Included in the evolving program are works by Piper and Smart, Elena Kats-Chernin (Aus), Issie Barratt (UK), Christina Fuchs (Germany), Eve Beglarian (USA/Armenia), Ann Southam (Canada), Sandy Evans (Aus), Linda Oh (Aus/USA), Alison Isadora (NZ/Netherlands), Li-Ying Wu (Taiwan/Denmark) and more.
