Last year, The NCS Concert Band were the grateful recipients of a pair of Timpani from the Shoalhaven Concert Band. This kind donation was the impetus for the first combined In Tune Concert.
Now the In Tune Concert returns for its second year on Tuesday, August 27.
The repertoire, chosen by conductors Richard Hodge and Amanda Lawrence, features a selection of genres from up tempo funk, to classics like Danny Boy and Soft Shoe Shuffle, and will also include some modern and very well known tunes.
The Shoalhaven Jazz Band will also keep you tapping your feet after interval when it presents a set showcasing some of the Shoalhaven's most talented musicians.
The NCS Concert Band began in 2016 with an instrumental program within the primary school.
At the inception of this program the school was able to purchase a bulk lot of ex-rental instruments with timing that was considered providential.
This initial purchase of so many instruments kickstarted the program, providing for the keen potential musicians.
Since 2016, students have been tutored in small groups by generous teachers, parents, community members, and local music teachers.
The time, dedication and support of these people has been the underpinning factor in the successful establishment of the NCS Concert Band.
The band currently comprises 20 students ranging from Years 5-10. They have performed at various local community and school events.
NCS Concert Band conductor, Mrs Amanda Lawrence said the students really enjoy the opportunity to combine with such an experienced and talented band like the Shoalhaven City Concert Band.
"The students can learn so much from performing with a more experienced band. We are really appreciative of the opportunity and are hoping that this combined concert with the Shoalhaven City Concert Band will continue annually," she said.
The concert will be held at the Nowra School of Arts. All are welcome to attend from 6-7:30pm.
Light finger food will be provided during intermission. Entry is free, however you may make a gold coin donation if you would like.
