The Shoalhaven Lydian Singers will present its second concert under musical director Katharina Raffelsberger on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25.
'Behold the King and Queen' will serve everyone with the joy of glamorous music that was and is played at royal functions like coronations, weddings and funerals, such as Zadok the Priest, celebrating King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba but written for the coronation of King George II in 1727.
There is also music that plays with the idea of royalty such as a rollicking folk song from the Isle of Man - (the Herring is) King of the Sea; a favourite from Gilbert and Sullivan: When Britain Really Ruled the Waves; and You Spotted Snakes.
There will also be music from King Henry VIII and rock band Queen.
The concert is set to present a great mix of composers, from the 16th to 21st centuries.
Henry VIII wrote the song "Pastyme with Good Company", probably for Catherine of Aragon, shortly after his coronation.
The Lydian Singers will sing many anthems and hymns, especially some sung fairly recently at the weddings of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The 'latest', 21st century piece, is a setting of the Maundy Thursday Latin hymn Ubi Caritas by Paul Mealor, performed as part of the Royal Wedding ceremony of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
Director Raffelsberger has been exploring the choir's capabilities and challenging singers with new songs.
In particular, they've been asked to volunteer to do solo singing, so this concert will display the talents of some of the braver singers - leading some of the choruses, or simply performing in several opportunities.
Saturday's concert will be held from 2.3pm at the Berry School of Arts. Sunday's concert will be from 2.30pm at the Nowra School of Arts.
Tickets can be pre-booked until 7pm Friday, August 23 on trybooking.com or purchased at the door each day.
