'Havana Return, por favor' will roll into town on Saturday, August 24 from 8pm.
Caribé, an all star eight piece band, will be joined by dancer Adrian Medina and Yarima Gavilan for a combination of Cuban music and dance.
Adrian is a Cuban expat, now settled in Australia, and is a remarkable dancer - as well as being an acclaimed dance teacher. Caribé feature some of Australia's finest jazz and Latin musicians.
Through a lens both retrospective and current, 'Havana Return, por favor' shares the recollections of a first-generation Cuban migrant returning home after many years in Australia.
This striking and varied stage production with its steamy Caribbean rhythms will transport the audience straight to the heart of Cuba.
The dancers exude elegance, exoticism and Cubanissimo in choreography by Adrian Medina against a backdrop of archival footage from 50s and 60s Cuba.
The culmination is a unique stage performance, making the show a memorable experience.
As Master of Ceremonies, Medina keeps up a narrative between the musical numbers, filling in the historical background with juicy anecdotes and humour.
Their story began when Gai from Spare Part Productions, a Sydney-based music publisher, invited Medina to perform with her Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble at Sydney's Afro-Latino Festival.
Medina pulled together a group of four Cuban dancers living in Australia and choreographed a hugely successful performance pushing us all into new territory as Caribé.
Caribé's music and dance performances continue to evolve and grow through the exchange of knowledge and concerts with international Cuban artists including Grammy-nominated pianist/composer Elio Villafranca and Adelaide-based Cuban trumpeter/composer Lazaro Numa.
The group will also perform in Wollongong and Canberra on their tour.
Tickets are priced between $23 and $30 and can be purchased at eventbrite.com
