Fire crews were called to what is believed to be an unoccupied home in Hobart Street just after 6am.
The home was fully engulfed, with flames already through the roof, when two crews from NSW Fire and Rescue Nowra and one from Shoalhaven arrived at the scene.
The strong westerly winds that have buffeted the area since the early hours of Monday morning proved a challenge for firefighters, with the wind increasing the fire's intensity.
Nowra Fire captain John Dun praised the crews in their efforts which prevented the fire spreading to three nearby homes.

"There was also a construction style fence around the property, which initially hampered efforts."
It is believed it is the third time in the past 18 months fire crews have been called to the property.
"We couldn't save the home, which we understand to be unoccupied, so we turned our attention to ensuring the two neighbouring properties and one to the rear were safe," Captain Dun said.
"The crews did a great job ensuring those home remained safe."
At one stage three crews of firefighters used breathing apparatus to combat the fire due to the intense smoke in the area."
NSW Ambulance and NSW Police were also on the scene.
The fire has been fully extinguished with fire crews remaining at the location.
Investigations into the cause of the blaze will be carried out by police forensic officers.
Captain Dun said it has been a busy few days for Fire and Rescue NSW crews with a number of incidents, including some suspicious fires, in the Nowra area.
He reminded and encouraged any residents seeing any suspicious activities to contact police.
