A CULBURRA Beach man who has been caught speeding 17 times in the past two and half years, including six within school zones, has been fined more than $2400 aftrer being detected 45km/h over the speed limit on the Princes Highway.
Alex Arnold, 41, who had pleaded not guilty to exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h, did not appear in Nowra Local Court on Wednesday, August 14.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming convicted him in his absence, fining him $2435 and disqualifying him from driving for six months.
Court papers said Arnold was detected by police radar travelling at 154km/h in a 100 zone on the Princes Highway at Broughton Vale, north of Berry on October 9 last year.
His traffic record showed he had been caught speeding 16 times since February 2017, and fined more than $4000.
The majority of the previous fines, which were not in the local area, were after being detected by speed cameras for between 10 and 20km/h over the speed limit, however two were for 20km/h over the limit.
At least six of the offences were detected in school zones.
During that time he has racked up $4093 worth of fines and has had numerous letters about the fines and demerit points.
