In the opening round of the event, which runs from August 21 to September 1, Culburra Beach Boardrider Wright will take on countrymen Wade Carmichael and Brazil's Jesse Mendes on heat one of the first round.
Wright, who currently sits in 12 in the world rankings, will look to build on his quarter-final appearance at the recent J-Bay Open.
Owen's brother Mikey is one of three surfers to have withdrawn form the event due to ongoing injuries.
Mikey Wright, Hawaii's John John Florence and Italy's Leonardo Fioravanti have been replaced by Brazil's Caio Ibelli, Portugal's Francisco Morais and Tahitian Matahi Drollet, from French Polynesia - with the latter to be placed into the draw once the trials are complete.
