The 23-year-old, who was set to make his national team debut at the upcoming FIBA World Cup in China, has been diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his left knee - ruling him out of the tournament slated to start on August 31.

It's been reported he injured his knee during a Boomers' training session in Perth, shattering his hopes of representing his country.

After his selection last week, the 203cm forward who recently penned a deal with French side Strasbourg, couldn't wait to pull on the green and gold.

"It's hard to put into words how excited I was when Andrej [Lemanis] told me," he said.

"Once he told me, it's hard not to think of the road you've had to get here and all the sacrifices you've made along the way - it's all worth it.

"As cool as it would to be in the NBA one day, my main goal in life was to play for the Boomers - so to have the chance to play for my country at the World Cup, it doesn't get much better than that."

The former Winthrop College star was projected to be the first small forward off the bench, behind Utah Jazz's Joe Ingles - with his ability to defend multiple positions seen as the most significant asset he brought to the team.

Despite this injury, expect the Illawarra Hawks product to be part of the Boomers squad for years to come.
