When it comes to fundraising, Greenwell Point Hospital Auxiliary is up there with the most dedicated groups.
With a membership of just 23 members, the primary focus of the auxiliary is to raise money for the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital in providing much-needed items and equipment for use by patients and staff.
The Greenwell Point branch is part of the UHA (United Hospital Auxiliaries) and has been active since 1950.
Next year will mark 70 years of continuous support for the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.
Secretary for the auxiliary, Donna Swan said an annual calendar of fundraising is set at the beginning of ever year.
"We try to ensure that there is also fun for members involved in the events that are being held," she said.
"These include traditional fundraisers such as cake stalls and raffles but also bus trips and fashion parades to name a few.
"In the past six years the branch has raised more than $74,000 for the hospital, which has enabled the purchase of vital equipment and items that have been requested by the hospital."
This year the Auxiliary is excited about a new fundraiser. They've partnered with the Shoalhaven Community Choir to host a Spring Gala Dinner at the Nowra Golf Club on Saturday, September 7 from 6pm to midnight.
Sue Hammond-Warne, president of the Shoalhaven Community Choir said the group is passionate about supporing the local community through their singing.
"The choir is dedicated to fundraising and have this as part of their vision and values. Members enjoy singing and entertaining but are also aware of the needs of the local community," she said.
The Spring Gala Dinner is shaping up to be a great night out with local entertainers, including Olivia Corish, Peter Bishop, Leanne and Anthony Girdlestone and Catie Halliday. Pre-dinner entertainment will be the combined choirs Sing Australia Vincentia and the Shoalhaven Community Choir.
Guest speakers include Professor Dennis King, Chairperson of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Board. The night will feature live and silent auctions and a raffle draw.
Seats are still available and are $60 per person. Tickets are available on trybooking.com - search Spring Gala Dinner 7 September. Raffle tickets can be bought at $2 each with a great range of prizes including a large screen TV, jewellery, dinner out for four with a chauffeured limousine and more.
Diana Metcalf, president of the Greenwell Point Hospital Auxiliary encouahed everyone to head along.
"Come be part of this great night out and help us raise money for the hospital, which is such an important part of our community," she said.
"Those who are interested in becoming part of our auxiliary are welcome to join us for meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 1.30pm at the Greenwell Point Hall."
