Max can be described as a caring, kind, funny young man with a wicked sense of humour. He has a dedicated staffing team of five supporting him to live life to his full potential.
When Max first transitioned in to Supported Independent Living in 2016, it was a slow and steady process.
As part of his tailored activities, the main priority was to make Max feel more comfortable with the adjustments taking place, which included evening dinners and short day visits to the centre. Over time, he slowly transitioned into what he at the time knew as "Max's Place".
Within the first few months of his commencement, Max settled very well into his home. He was very curious of the inner workings of the facility including for the first time helping staff with his own laundry.
Part of the focus was to also allow Max the opportunity to explore the outdoors and get him interacting within the local community.
What could have been deemed to be a challenging process due to the risks involved was achieved to the great delight of Max and staff. Max is now able to go out, eat in his local park and enjoy his time away from the house, explore and satisfy his curiosity.
Another monumental step for him was maintaining his own personal care, health and wellbeing.

Tasks like showering initially were a little complex however with support and having the steps broken down, it ultimately allowed him to change his daily routine into something familiar for him.
Another key area for Max in his Supported Independent Living journey was his medical visits which in the past had been challenging and often daunting for him.
After assistance, guidance and encouragement from both his carers and family, Max was able to visit the dentist and undertake multiple medical assessments without causing him stress or unease.
With all the support Max has received, his whole perception has changed and his overall quality of life has improved immensely since joining The Disability Trust Supported Independent Living program.
Max is now achieving goals and outcomes some never thought possible.
