Officially the UFC's No. 1 contender, Volkanovski, a former Warilla-Lake South Gorillas star, has made a vocal pitch for what would be a mega co-main event fight on the Robert Whittaker-Israel Adesanya card in Melbourne .
Champion Max Holloway made an impressive defence of his crown against Frankie Edgar in Canada on Sunday, but has also been the most active champion on the UFC roster.

Fighting on the UFC 243 card would be a short turnaround but the Hawaiian remains open to it.
"We'll see what happens, I look fine, I look great but I will wait to [talk to] my team, I'll wait to talk to my coaches," Holloway said.
"We've got to get medical testing, I've fought three title fights in seven and a half months.
"I want to fight one more time this year but we've got to go and take all the right testing and we'll see from there."
