So when Shoalhaven Rugby Club run onto Rugby Park for their eighth Digger Day clash with Kiama, tomorrow all their players will be up for the occasion.
"It's a massive day for Shoalies because we have a large number of guys who have served or who are currently serving in the forces," said Shoals skipper Steven Brandon, who will be playing in his fifth Digger Day.
"For us to celebrate that and give something back, is an amazing feeling.
"To represent them and honour the past, present and future people who will serve, for their amazing sacrifice, is something all of us players hold close to our hearts."
The day will kick-off at 12pm with event VIPs, including Victoria Cross recipients Keith Payne and New Zealand's Willie Apiata as well as Australia's last living George Cross recipient Michael Pratt and Cross of Valour recipient Tim Britten, will be flown into the venue on a Royal Australian Navy EC135 helicopter and a Westland Augusta helicopter from CHC Helicopters - before the first grade match gets underway at 1.15pm following the annual tradition of Luke Meehan kicking-off.

This year, the hosts will wear specially designed jersey, paying homage to World War II and in particular Kokoda, honouring the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels.
"It's always an honour to lead the boys out but will mean a lot to me to do it on Digger Day - I can't wait," Brandon said.
Shoals, fresh off a loss to Vikings, will be looking to return to the winner's circle against the seventh-placed Cows.
"These types of games do pump up the boys a lot, as they want to do the jersey and the big crowds in attendance proud - it always push us that little bit more to get that win," Brandon said.
"To ensure we do secured our sixth win of the year, we need to play to our strengths and not get overawed by the occasion.
"We have been playing strong rugby the last few weeks and need that to continue - play as a team and our defence will win us the game."
The reserve grade fixture will follow at 3pm.
