"There are more than 6,000 unclaimed items worth more than $2 million in the South East region alone," said Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope.
"The value ranges from $20 in share dividends to a trust fund worth more than $1 million.
"It only takes a few minutes and you could walk away with extra money in your pocket."
The 414,000 items held by Revenue NSW come from local councils, private companies, state trustees and government agencies.
The reason the money hasn't been returned to residents is usually that contact information is out of date so the owner can't be tracked down.
There's no need to rush though as the NSW Government will hold the money until it's claimed.
