Three of the principal players in the Illawarra band come from the Shoalhaven; Jo Landstra (viola), Karella Mitchell (cello) and Jacob Antonio (second violin).
The annual awards are the only event in Australia that specifically acknowledges achievements in the fields of composition, performance, education and presentation of Australian art music.
The group has recently wrapped up a successful concert at the Nowra School of Arts that was a collaboration with the South Coast Big Band. Organisers said they were thrilled that many children and young people were in the enthusiastic audience.
The orchestra's next concert series will see them return to Nowra in September. In conjunction with Music Shoalhaven, they will present Symphonic Sounds.
The concert will feature soloist violinist Anna da Silva Chen playing Beethoven's Violin Concerto.
Anna is an emerging young artist well-known across the region, especially in Gerringong, where she has been playing for the local music club since she was very young.
The string orchestra will be supported with brass, woodwind and percussion will perform Mozart's Jupiter Symphony and other favourites.
The concert will be held on Sunday, September 22 at the Nowra School of Arts at 2pm. Book your tickets here.
