There are widespread power disruptions across the Shoalhaven.
In Nowra, the winds picked up shortly before midnight and from around 3am Thursday have been constant between 48 and 69km/h, with a number of gusts up into the 90s.
At 5am a 94km/h gust was recorded, while at 6.20am and 6.30am winds reached 96km/h.
In Ulladulla winds have also been strong with constant speeds up to the 30km/h while gusts of 59km/h were recorded at 8.30am.
Trees are reported down in a number of locations.
In the northern Shoalhaven with the northbound lane of Berry Street in Nowra is blocked near Jervis Street after a large blue spruce pine tree came down across the road.
Police and Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the location just before 7.30am.
The southbound lane remains open but northbound traffic is being diverted around the blocked road.
The Nowra State Emergency Service unit crews are expected to clear the fallen tree.
There are disruptions also in North Nowra after a tree on the corner of McMahons and Hanson roads was brought down in the winds.
Endeavour Energy reports power outages in the North Nowra area with around 1291 homes affected.
Power outages are also reported at Cambewarra, Nowra Hill, Woollamia and Bellawongarah.
Further south and 572 properties are reportedly without power in the Ulladaulla, Conjola, Lake Conjola and Yatte Yattah areas.
Nowra SES unit controller Mark Kielly said 10 jobs have been logged with the service.
"We've had trees down and one trampoline get picked up by the wind, while a roof also suffered with a loose sheet," he said.
"Most of the calls are from the Nowra, North Nowra and Bomaderry areas.
"The trampoline was out at Worrigee and blew into a fence.
"We've got crews with a number of trees on power lines but haven't heard of any power lines down at this stage."
He said calls started rolling in just after 6am.
With winds expected to continue to lash the area over the next day or so Mr Kielly has again reminded residents to secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; move vehicles under cover or away from trees and to keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
The Bureau of Meteorology has again issued a severe weather warning for the area for damaging winds for people along the South Coast.
A cold front is currently crossing southern NSW, with a second cold front forecast to cross the state overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
Vigorous northwest to southwesterly winds are expected with both these systems, with winds only easing later Saturday after the passage of the second front.
Damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70 km/h, with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are possible for the South Coast and Illawarra during Thursday and Friday.
Damaging winds in these areas are likely during Thursday morning and early afternoon.
Winds are forecast to ease during Saturday following the passage of the second cold front.
