Four years later Mrs Pearce completed her magnificent quilt Peacock Pizazz.
The work of art won first prize for professional applique at the 2019 Sydney Craft and Quilt Show.
"I'm quite delighted, it was a big undertaking," Mrs Pearce said.
"It was one of those projects that kept asking for more."
The quilt measures 215cm by 224cm and was influenced by Kazakhstan embroidery and the work of Leesa Chandler.
This year marks the Gerroa resident's thirtieth anniversary as a quilter.
Merelyn joined a quilting group in 1989 and was instantly addicted.
The quilt fanatic has already started her next project.
"This will be my last big quilt," Mrs Pearce said.
Peacock Pizazz will be on display at the Gerringong Quilt Show.
Mrs Pearce hopes her work will travel to Melbourne for the best of show exhibition.
