With the NSW pack steamrolling the Maroons in Sunday night's second clash, Kevin Walters is widely tipped to make a number of changes for next month's decider.
The Maroons in particular need reinforcements on the bench, with the likes of Jarrod Wallace and Tim Glasby unable to make a dent in the Blues pack on Sunday.
For Coyne, Sims is the perfect man to slide into the side, adding starch to a unit that was lacking intent at Optus Stadium.
"There's no doubt the forwards were outplayed on Sunday night," the former St George Illawarra Dragon said. "In my view, to win in Origin you need to have good field position. We had no field position and that falls back to the forwards.
"It's the forwards' job to generate good field position to provide the backs with the space to attack. There's no doubt we need to change that, whether it's through changes or more intent.
"Kevvie would have to be considering changes. We don't have the same pool of resources that NSW does, but Korbin is certainly a guy that should be in the mix."
While yet to make his Origin debut, Sims has represented Queensland Under 16s and 18s and turned in an impressive performance in captaining Fiji to a 58-14 win over Lebanon on Saturday.
Sims was coy when asked about his Origin chances on Tuesday, the 27-year-old eager to represent his state, though not anticipating a call from Walters when he names his team on Monday.
"I haven't heard from Kevvie," Sims said. "My year hasn't been great so far, the suspension to start the year and then six weeks off with injury.
"If it happens it happens this year, if it doesn't, I've got to grit down, keep working hard and try make the side soon, because it's still very much a big goal of mine to make the Queensland side. For now, I've got to try and get my body right and keep playing some good footy."

While State of Origin is no doubt a step up from the NRL, Coyne has full confidence Sims' experience at the junior representative level and seven years in the NRL have prepared him to make that leap to the Origin arena.
"He's been in the NRL for a number of years, he has a lot of experience, I have no doubt he'd be ready to play Origin," Coyne said.
"He needs to bring intent. The players that have been there have shown they're decent players, but they need to be playing with more intent and attitude. Korbin will bring that.
"He's also a big hitter, that will help defensively. We need to put them back in defence, we didn't do that on Sunday. Korbin will bring a whole heap of skills to the Queensland team."
Should Walters name Sims in his team for the match at ANZ Stadium on July 10, it will see him line up opposite older brother and Blues representative Tariq.
Korbin admitted it was bittersweet watching Sunday's match, with the Queenslander supporting his state while still hoping to see his brother excel in just his second Origin appearance.
"It was really tough," Korbin said. "I want to see my brother do well and succeed in everything he does, but that's come at a cost with Queensland not playing so well against a very strong NSW outfit on Sunday."
