In Nowra Local Court, Luke Close, 32, faced a number of charges including using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, damaging property and two counts of contravening an apprehended violence order.
Police said the charges stem from an incident in Samuel Street, Bomaderry on December 22, 2017.
Court papers said despite an apprehended violence order being in place between Close and the woman, he broke into her home through a rear window just after 8am, finding her asleep in a bedroom.
Police said the pair had a conversation about Close's Centrelink payments which led to an argument during which he grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her onto the bed, placed his hands around her throat and hit her in the face a number of times.
Court papers said the woman tried to use her mobile phone to call police but Close grabbed it and smashed it on the ground, before punching the victim in the chest.
Police claim the woman, who was struggling to breathe, asked for an ambulance to be called, to which Close replied "you don't need no f....ing ambulance...die..just sit there and die."
Court paper said Close then stood on the woman's back telling her to "die you s..t".
It was alleged Close produced a syringe with a needle and threatened to shoot the woman up with "bupe" (buprenorphine).
The court heard Close again broke an AVO two days later on December 24 when he went to the woman's home,
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming sentenced Close to an aggregate sentence of three years and six months' jail with a non-parole period of two years.
He will be eligible for release in February 2020.
