Clarke, 24, was sentenced to two years and three months jail in Nowra District Court with a non-parole period of 16 months.
Court papers said Clarke went to a Nowra address around 2.30pm on September 29 last year, where the male victim was sitting outside with friends listening to music.
Police said Clarke started verbally abusing and threatening the victim.
A heated verbal exchange ensued which became physical. Court papers said Clarke produced a 20-centimetre steak knife which he lunged toward the victim's chest.
Following a struggle, the victim suffered a stab wound to the calf, which bled profusely.
Court papers said witnesses used a T-shirt to try to stem the bleeding and even resorted to attaching a ratchet style tie down strap to the man's upper thigh as a tourniquet.
Clarke ran from the property.
The injured man was taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital and then airlifted to St George Hospital.
Police later arrested Clarke.
The court heard Clarke was a methylamphetamine addict and had untreated anger management issues as well as a traumatic upbringing.
In Nowra District Court Judge Chris O'Brien sentenced him to two years and three months' jail from December 5 last year with a non-parole period of 16 months.
