Thanks for the support
Jervis Bay Lions Club recently distributed nearly $40,000 that was raised over the last financial year. Local schools, scout and guide groups, medical research, drought relief and the local hospital were some of the many beneficiaries.

Many thanks to all those who have purchased raffle tickets, had a sausage sandwich or donuts from the Lions van or paid for their kids to go on the Lions jumping castle - all of this money has gone back to support these great causes.
Thanks also to the many businesses in the Bay and Basin area that support the great work of the Lions Club and in particular Joyland Carnival.
Without all of you we couldn't have made these donations.

Voters in cold for 21 years
In reply to B.Cumberland's letter 'Gilmore out in the cold', the writer must be confused. Voters in Gilmore have been out in the cold for over 21 years with a Liberal member with little infrastructure, a local hospital broken, a death highway, high unemployment, homeless getting bigger, public rail bus a joke, people trying to live day to day. Ninety per cent would not know what franking credits are.
Voters had a choice: 21 years of the same born to rule or vote for a change in Gilmore and they made a move to Fiona Phillips who has a big job ahead after 21 years of neglect in Gilmore. As for the SCR leaning one way, I am sure if this was true, the SCR would have been raided by now.
In fairness the SCR prints it as it is - no fake news - and is trying to keep the bastards honest, which some don't like.

Gilmore wanted change
In reply to B. Cumberland's letter in which he says "silent majority has spoken but alas not in Gilmore".
The writer questions how anything will be achieved when Fiona Phillips is not part of the government. Well if this were the case all seats would fall to the government of the day and let's not forget that Joanna Gash, former MP for Gilmore, spent some of her tenure in opposition. The silent majority in Gilmore have spoken and they wanted a hard working Labor member and I am sure Mrs Phillips will deliver to the best of her ability for all residents of Gilmore.

Give her a chance
Conservatives mourning over a conservative election win (B. Cumberland, SCR letters June 14)? No, the Labor faithful were never confident about what the polls were saying. They, as I do, never believe the media-driven polls. The only numbers you should ever go by is the count on election night.
I ask, what is the embarrassment to the Shoalhaven by electing a Labor candidate? Does B. Cumberland think that Fiona Phillips is not worthy or capable of carrying out her duties as our elected local Gilmore member of Parliament?
I see no folly in Gilmore by electing Fiona. She is highly intelligent and very understanding of the problems of her constituents and will perform 100 per cent to assist them.
She also possesses the qualities of honesty and integrity that is needed in this electorate. I deplore suggestions she's not up to the task. It's her first term in parliament as an MP. She worked hard, there is a lot to learn and she deserved to win.
Electing a new Labor leader, rejigging front bench positions or listening is nothing new. It happens on both sides of the house. Labor's policies were people's policies, not ideological. All the Morrison government had was tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts and that Bill Shorten tells lies.
What sort of policies are they? Again, I congratulate Fiona on her win and thank the voters of Gilmore for supporting a local and giving her a chance to prove her worth.
