"I have no comment to make on the senate stuff," Mr Mundine said.
Mr Mundine was touted as a front runner for the vacant senate spot.
The former ALP national president, who was parachuted into Gilmore at the expense of local businessman Grant Schultz, said he intended to stay in the electorate.
"By mid next year I want to buy a small farmlet near the coast," he said.
"That's what my wife has wanted all along."
Mr Mundine said his immediate focus was to help the Liberal Party branches rebuild after the messy preselection and lingering internal divisions.
"We need to get the Liberal Party back in a position to win Gilmore at the next election."
