This is a great achievement, not only for the club, but also for the Shoalhaven region as the sport of AFL continues to gain in popularity.
The coach, Robert Missingham, gave the following match report of the Bombers first hit out against the Bomaderry team.
Both teams fielded eight players with only one reserve from Bomaderry and the field size was the same as the under nine game.
There was plenty of opportunity for girls of all levels to get their hands on the football.
The rules of the game have been modified to enable the smaller girls from both the Basin and the Bomaderry team to get involved in the game without being concerned about getting hurt.
Credit should be paid to the Bomaderry girls for fair play and the on-field umpire, Tony Mickals, who made good judgement without restricting a free flowing game.
All the girls seemed to enjoy the game and were not concerned with the score.
The Bay and Basin girls were keen to get back into the game at half time that they took to the field early.
The smile on Kate Lilly's face at the end of the game because she had kicked a point was priceless, it was like she had kicked a goal in the World Cup.
It was her first AFL game ever and she was extremely nervous to begin with but now absolutely loves it.
The player of the match for Bay and Basin was India McMurchie, who had a lot of possessions and also managed to kick a goal.
The parents really enjoyed the game as it was a friendly, open environment which welcomed players of all skill levels and abilities.
Some of the girls who usually don't get a lot of football in the mixed Under 11 team, gained a lot of confidence from the game as their possession rate increased.
We all look forward to the expansion of the competition in future years!
