Roads and Maritime Services is planning for a new four lane bridge over the Shoalhaven River, upgraded intersections and additional lanes on the Princes Highway.

The NSW and Australian governments have each committed $155 million to the project, which would improve traffic flow and ease congestion on a major section of the Princes Highway and deliver faster and more reliable journeys within the Nowra-Bomaderry area.

A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said 109 submissions were received from the community in response to the display of a Review of Environmental Factors (REF).

"The REF identified potential environmental impacts of building the new bridge and was carried out in consultation with a range of key stakeholders, including technical specialists," the spokesperson said.

"Stakeholders and the community were invited to comment on the REF during August and September 2018, and the submission report summarises the issues raised."

The spokesperson said the feedback has been used to make changes to the project design including safer pedestrian access at intersections, a reduced impact to heritage buildings and land with residential development potential, and smaller and fewer work areas to reduce impacts during construction and enable the bridge to be built more quickly.

The community is invited to review the submissions report to learn how Roads and Maritime responded to their issues and those raised by other members of the community.
