But the Brumbies finally broke through for their first win in the competition on Saturday, when they edged out Bomaderry 3-2.
Two goals from the returning Stephen Gray, as well as a third from Tom White secured Steve Monslave's side their first win at Emmett Street Oval.
"It was great to finally get over the hump and secure our first win," Monslave said.
"It has taken our squad a while to adjust to the speed of the game in first grade, with only one player having played at this level before - with the majority of our squad between 17 and 18 years of age.
"To the boys credit, they dug deep, showed plenty of character and ground out a well deserved three points, against last year's grand finalists.
"The boys will take a lot of confidence from this win - they are improving each week and I'm sure more wins are just around the corner."
As stoked as Monslave and his troops are about the win, they appreciate it has come on the back of months of hard work - dating back to the end of 2018.
"After a strong season in reserve grade last season (in which the Brumbies lost the grand final to Bomaderry), all the boys decided they wanted to test themselves in the top grade," Monslave said.
"On top of that, we wanted to give our strong juniors a chance to stay at the club and play at a first grade standard, because in year's past, we have unfortunately lost players to other clubs as they wanted to play first grade.
"We also hope to attract more local juniors like Stephen Gray, who played his first game back at the club since 2011 on Saturday, back to the Brumbies."
While Monslave is excited to have players like Gray back at the club, he also has high praise for the squad as a whole.
"With no over 35s team this year, a lot of those players have filtered back into our grade system, which has added more depth to our three teams," he said.
"This is probably no more relevant than in first grade, where we lost a number of that second grade squad from last year before the started this season.
"But young players such as Sebastian Sezonenko and Calum Mitchell have been rock solid in defence and a large part of our success this year.
"I'm sure this young core will continue to grow each week and push towards a final berth - which is a our goal moving forward.
"From there, we would like to use this year as a stepping stone to one day winning the premiership."
The Brumbies next step towards claiming that top-four spot involves a trip to the St Georges basin Sporting Complex, to play the league leading Dragons.
"Tests don't get much bigger than this Saturday's trip to St Georges Basin," Monslave said.
"We have come a long way since that round one loss to Sussex and a really feel that we can get a result against St Georges Basin.
"The keys for us will be rectifying our slow starts and being ready to go from the first whistle, as it usually takes a while to work into the match.
"But everyone now knows the standard needed to be successful in this competition - our fitness, speed and combinations are constantly improving.
"Combine that with our never give up attitude and I think we are building a great culture at the club - one that the whole community is rallying around.
"It's an exciting time to be a Calla Brumby."
Elsewhere in round seven, Bomaderry host Sussex, Culburra take on Shoalhaven United, Illaroo entertain Milton-Ulladulla and Shoalhaven Heads-Berry battle Huskisson-Vincentia, with Manyana having the bye.
