THE undefeated start to the 2019 AFL South Coast season for Geoff Gibbs' Bomaderry Tigers women's team is over, after they lost 5.7-37 to 2.4-16 to the Wollongong Lions on Saturday.
Played at North Dalton Park, Jess Thomas and Maddison Pearson kicked goals for the Tigers in the premiers women's fixture, with the Bridget Kellett, Kate Bramley, Emily Schweitzer, Sam Weir and Emma Dowse also playing strongly for the black and golds in the loss.
This result was just one of three wins that escaped the Tigers' grasp on Saturday against the Lions, with their premier men's team sharing the points with the hosts, after the game was abandoned in the second quarter (when the score was 7.3-45 to 4.2-26 to the Lions) due to a potential neck injury to Tyler Dunstan, while their division one men's side were defeated 8.6.54 to 4.3-27.
The Tigers premier men's team were best served by Siwa Harvey-Aziz, Mathew Ganderton, Connor Clarke, Jack Boxsell, Charlie Rodden and Brent Herdman, as Matthew Bryce, Jack Batson, Matthew Paynter, Charlie Bramley, Bailey Hooker and Lachlan Hunt gave their all in division one.
Elsewhere, the Nowra/Albatross Vikings division one men's side went down to the Figtree Kangaroos 8.10-58 to 7.4-46 at Figtree Oval, as their women's division one side forfeited their match against the Ulladulla Dockers.
The Dockers division two men's side ran riot against the Shellharbour Suns, winning 19.17-131 to 0.4-4 at the Ulladulla Sports Park.
In other Shoalhaven news, the Bay and Basin Bombers division one women's side defeated the Albion Park Crows by 16 points at the Vincentia Sports Park.
