A severe weather front crossed the path of the Grafton to Inverell race as they topped the Gibraltar Range. At this point Johns withdrew from the event with knee pain while Coghlan battled on through blown leaves and branches and rode into Inverell to finish this event at his first attempt despite a lack of long training kilometres.
Twelve NVC riders were at the start of the Goulburn Interclub event at Gunning, also on Saturday afternoon with a cold south westerly wind blowing. The NVC riders were spread across the handicapped field along with riders from Goulburn, Illawarra, Camden Southern Highlands and Jindabyne clubs.
The division two event was a runaway win for Ian Thebridge (Camden CC) while scratch rider Jacob Emmerton (Goulburn CC) won division one. NVC riders finished in respectable positions but missed the top five prizes in both divisions. Jason Spence was a leading contender for fastest time in division two.
Other NVC riders in this event included Mark Astley, Mark Williams, Ben Wallis, Richard Vitiello, Michael Berriman, Scott James, Tony Kuipers, Colin Hunt, Matt O'Hearn, Geoff Lockhart and Adrian McMillan.
Nowr Velo returns to local racing next weekend with graded criteriums on the Albatross Aviation Tech Park starting at 8.30 am with the Access Storage team as the rostered officials.
