Renee Henry was inspired to start the Huskisson Mother's Day Classic event after moving to the Shoalhaven from Sydney.

She said many women in her family had breast cancer, including her mother. After her mother's diagnosis, the Mother's Day Classic became a ritual.

"When I moved down the coast, the nearest events were an hour away, so I decided to start one myself," she said.

"With my family history and what we've been through, I was determined to keep it going, to help other people and raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.

"Mum and a few other amazing women helped organise it, and now we're into the third year."

Ms Henry encouraged anyone and everyone to join in the family-oriented day.

"We have options to cater for everybody, there's a run and a walk, and a distance of 3km or 6km," she said.

"It's really family friendly and we just encourage everyone to have a go, it's just about getting out there and having a good time."

She said people connected in a unique way at the event.

"Everyone has a story to tell," she said.

"The statistics are one in eight women will be diagnosed in their lifetime, so you don't have to go far to find someone who has been affected."

The Mother's Day Classic will be held at the Voyager Memorial Park in Huskisson, on Sunday, May 12. Events start at 9am, and registrations open from 7.30am. There will be a raffle, face painting, a BBQ and cupcakes from the Husky Bakery.
