The Erowal Bay event might be a small service, compared to others around the Shoalhaven, but its stature heightens significantly because of two men and the theme of family remembrance.

The late Kevin Roberts and Ned Falconer are always remembered and acknowledged at the service.

Both men used to run the service and now Ned's widow Di has the honour of coordinating it.

Ned passed away eight-years-ago and Kevin passed away 10-years-ago.

Mrs Falconer has been running the service for many years and she does not know of any other women who run an Anzac Day service in the Shoalhaven.

She made sure family sacrifice was definitely a key theme of the event.

Sean Falconer talked about his dad Ned at the service and the damage the Vietnam War did to his father.

Sean said his dad carried physical, mental and emotional scars from war.

The Vietnam Veteran's outlet was poetry.

"His poetry was beautiful and insightful," Sean said.

Two of Ned's poems were read out by his granddaughters Ciara Browne and Emily Falconer.

Meanwhile, members of the Roberts family placed a wreath at the village memorial in Kevin's honour.

Around 50 people attended what was an emotional and well-run event.

Another of the many highlights of the gathering was Jon Seccombe's performance of The Last Post and Rouse.

Both were amazing to hear.
