The work started in March and was expected to be done by the end of April.
Recent wet weather has forced workers to stay on an extra month, continuing on weekdays between 7am and 5pm until Friday 31 May, weather permitting.
The safety improvement work between Wandandian Creek Bridge and Sussex Inlet Road involves shoulder widening, curve improvements, audio tactile line marking and guardrail installation.
Temporary lane closures, stop and slow traffic control and a 40km per hour speed limit will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists while work is carried out.
To maintain safety for motorists, a reduced speed limit of 80 km per hour will remain in place outside of work hours.
No work will be carried out between Friday April 19 and Friday April 26, for the Easter long weekend and Anzac Day public holidays.
The speed limit will remain at 80km per hour though the work site during this time.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control and allow up to five minutes additional travel time.
Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its patience while the work is extended.
