Giuseppe Oliverio, 58, was stopped by police at Bream Beach, Erowal Bay around 4pm on November 2 last year in a Toyota Tarago.
Police allege he returned a breath reading of 0.252.
However, Oliverio pleaded not guilty to high range drink driving but guilty to altering the concentration of alcohol before a test.
Court papers said he consumed three 375 millilitre cans of beers and two scotches.
The high range drink driving charge was dismissed.
In Nowra Local Court Magistrate Gabriel Fleming placed Oliverio on a 12 month community correction order, meaning he can serve his sentence within the community.
She fined him $800 and disqualified him from driving for seven months.
