Standing at 6'8″, the Shoalhaven product brings some valuable height to the team.
"James size will be big for us and his ability to step out and shoot, will keep teams honest," coach Darryl McDonald said.
"He rebounds well, is a rim protector and a very good defender.
"I am looking forward to seeing him on the court with the rest of the guys"
James' career has also taken him to a national level, representing NZ in the NZ Tall Blacks in the FIBA Asia Cup in 2017 where they placed forth.
"I am really excited about Knox and the rich basketball history and community here," Hunter said.
"I'm pumped to be a part of that in chasing a championship in the NBL1.
"After speaking with Dmac [Darryl McDonald] I knew it was a great opportunity and knew I had to get down here - go Raiders!"
Hunter and his Raiders tip-off their NBL1 season on Saturday, from 8pm, against the Kilsyth Cobras at the State Basketball Centre.
