A CareFlight helicopter has been called to the scene of a car accident in Vincentia, scheduled to arrive at about 5.10pm on Friday.
The air ambulance has been called for a 26-year-old man who remains trapped in his car after it was crashed into a tree.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the man was reportedly in a stable but critical condition - trapped by compression.
At 4.55pm, paramedics on scene said they hoped to transport the patient from Vincentia, once he was freed, to the helicopter's landing site at Huskisson Bowling Club.
After the crash, one person was able to escape unharmed from the vehicle. They were assessed by paramedics on scene.
One lane of traffic has been blocked off while the rescue is under way.
Emergency services, including NSW Police and NSW RFS are working to control traffic.
Motorists are advised to avoid the scene, if possible.

A man in his mid-20s is reportedly trapped in his car, after a crash in Vincentia.
At 4.15pm on Friday, NSW Ambulance paramedics were responding to reports of a car crashing into a pole.
Four ambulance crews have been called to the scene at Elizabeth Drive near Burrill Street.
At 4.30pm a Rural Fire Services spokesman said St Georges Basin and Crossroads crews were working to remove the man safely from the car.
