Macey Insurance Brokers has a long history in the Shoalhaven, having begun operations in 1972 under the headship of John Macey.
It was then known as Macey Insurance Services, with the name being changed in 1985 to its current iteration.
Managing director Brendan Goddard said back in 1972 Macey Insurance Services was actually the first insurance broker located south of Wollongong.
"John opened the doors to service many families with life insurance and then moved into general insurance due to the growing economy of the region," Mr Goddard said.
Today there is a total of 27 staff across three locations - the head office Nowra as well as Bowral and Camden.
The team consists of nine qualified practicing insurance brokers, servicing the business's client base along with 13 broker support staff and four administrative staff.
Mr Goddard joined the team in 1997 after leaving school, becoming a director in 2005 after a short stint working in the UK insurance market.
He is now the major shareholder of the company and managing director, while Paul Brown is the company's other director.
Macey Insurance Brokers' main product is business insurance solutions for small to medium enterprises in all areas.
This ranges from property insurance, public liability, tradies' insurance, motor fleets, professional indemnity and much more.

"Our point of difference really is the personalised service you receive from us," Mr Goddard said.
"We have always taken the time to understand our clients and the risk profiles of their businesses.
"Our aim is to make sure you get the right insurance for your business, whether it's tradies' insurance for a small independent operator or corporate insurance for a much larger organisation.
"Most importantly, when something goes wrong, we walk you through the minefield of claims jargon and negotiate on your behalf."
Mr Goddard said his team was the company's greatest asset, with clients able to deal with local people who genuinely believe in providing the correct insurance for their needs.
"Our team love building long lasting relationships with our clients and are always there for them going above and beyond to help them with all the challenges they face when disaster strikes," he said.
"We work hard for our clients to ensure they get the right insurance for their business at a price that fits their budget."
Factors like climate change and increased building costs are impacting the cost of insurance, Mr Goddard said.
"Following a spate of natural weather-related disasters both here in Australia and also around the world we are seeing insurers lifting rates," he said.
"Cyclone Debbie and recently Oma, the Sydney hailstorm and bush fires have all cost the local industry tens of billions of dollars."
He said it was important to seek out professional advice when looking for insurance.
"Insurance can sometimes be seen as a tick the box job for SMEs however, when you get it wrong it can have serious and crippling impacts on your business," he said.
"Dealing with a professional means you are ensuring the fine print is read and the policy actually covers what it is meant to.
"Our experienced staff listen to our clients needs and ensure they offer the right insurance coverage to correctly protect their business assets and livelihood."
Many of the Macey Insurance Brokers team are born and bread Shoalhaven locals.
"We all grew up here and have strong ties to the region," Mr Goddard said.
"The community is our clients, the clients we serve day in day out.
"Providing a quality insurance offering to our community gives us great pride in the knowing we are protecting our community and their most valuable assets.
"Backing this up with quality, personalised and friendly service is enjoyable and rewarding."
Macey Insurance Brokers is well known for its community support and involvement.
"For many years we have financially supported many local events and charities," Mr Goddard said.
"We are fortunate to have a business that is well established and has the financial capacity, and desire, to invest back into the community to support those less fortunate."
Some of the events and organisations the business has been major supporters of include: Shoalhaven River Festival, Noah's Challenge, The Illawarra Disability Trust, The Variety Bash Group, South Coast Youth Leadership Forum, Cancer Council - Pink Ribbon, Shoalhaven Business Awards and the Shoalhaven Winter Wine Festival.
