At about 8.48pm, Labor conceded the South Coast to Ms Hancock.
Shortly after, it was announced that Mr Ward had won at every booth in the Kiama electorate, and was the first Liberal candidate to ever win at Albion Park Rail.
The returning MP fired up in his victory speech, says he campaigned against "egregious mis-truths and lies".
He also said it was "and incredible honour" to be elected by his community to represent them, and said the achievement "wasn't bad for a boy from Bomaderry".
Ms Hancock was tearful as she thanked family, friends and staff for their efforts during the campaign.
"This is my fifth election in state - they're all stressful," she said.
"It's like one big, gigantic job interview, where 40,000 people are going to vote for you, or not vote for you.
"You get a sense about people, about booths, but you never really know how it's going to go.
"My family and friends have always been there for me - now I'm just worried to hear if my colleagues have their seats back."
