A very pleasant Day at Callala with a good field for the day's competition of Two-Person Better Ball in conjunction with Single Stableford. Golf is one of those games where just like every other day players all teed off with high expectations to end the day on top of the podium as the day's victors. However, as we all know to achieve that goal, we need ability and unfortunately only a select few on each day are able to put the two together. Well, today being a team event as well as an individual game saw the team of Andrew Rostron and Billy George attain the holy grail of Expectation and Ability to take their place as winners for the day. Congratulation on an exemplary round of team golf coupled with great individual talent to achieve your well-earned win. Second home today was a great combination of team play and individual brilliance from both Billy Gatt and Gary Jonas to secure their spot on the podium along with bragging rights. Congratulations to both Gary and Billy on a great result. Securing the third spot was the very accomplished team of Terry London and Michael Inness who demonstrated what team golf is about and, coupled with their ability, to achieve a great result. Congratulations to both Michael and Terry on your well-earned win. Nearest the Pins:- 3rd & 11th Hole, Dave Dickeson, 10th Steve Martin, 14th Billy Gatt and 16th Warwick Dolman. Raffle:- Dave Dickeson, Noel Smith, Roger Mearns & John Green.
Callala
Callala golf today experienced the ups and downs of dramatic weather change in the area. First came the rain then the cancellation phone calls that changed a good field of players into a medium field of keen players. Congratulations to those who braved the elements to stay and play. The players who stayed to play an unusual format golf game of Maximum Score Stroke were rewarded with a great day of golf with sun not rain. A quite unassuming young player, Brendan Wade, was not going to let a little downpour stop him from playing a great golf game. Congratulations Brendan on a great win with a clear 3 stroke result over your nearest competitor. A very deserved win! Following on from his great Eagle game last Saturday Steve Monsalve revisited the winners' circle today with a very well earned 66 points round which placed him in second spot overall for the day's play. Congratulations Steve on a great round which is made even better considering you're supporting a low handicap which we all know leaves little room for error the lower you go. Third home today was "The Man" Glenn Hosking who took out last year's "Golf Exchange" challenge on the infamous Callala 11th Hole. Today Glenn used those same golf skills to earn his place in the winners' circle and, like Steve, is supporting a low handicap which of course makes his win all that much better. Congratulations Glenn and nice to be seeing a bit more of you at Saturday Golf. Congratulations to fourth place winner John Marriott who played a good, steady game today ensuring that his last few holes were played very well and in doing so ensured he ended up on top in a count back with Harold Reynolds and John Love who also scored 70 points. Well done John. Nearest the Pins:- 9th & 16th Hole Steve Monsalve, 10th Craig Wassell, & 14th Dallas Laughton. Raffle:- Craig Wassell, Andrew Kozinski & Harold Reynolds.

In Women's Golf on Thursday, despite the great run on the course the ladies generally found it difficult to score well in the Stableford event. As a result, the scores returned were unimpressive but the ladies battled on in an attempt to find those elusive three pointers or better. Di Pritchard continued to shine and brought in the best score of the day of 38 points in Division 3 and the only other really notable score was a worthy 34 points by Fay Wright in Division 2. In Division 1, the "Sues" were victorious with Sue Hunter being amazed to have claimed the winners' spot when she recorded 30 points on a count back from Sue Stephens in second position. Runner-up to Fay Wright in Division 2 was Jeanette Bright with 29 points and in Division 3, the second prize went to Jill Downie with 30 points. The ball competition went down to 27 points. Nearest the Pins 8th - Division 1 Jill Levi; Division 2 Dot Burton; Division 3 Di Pritchard. 16th Drive and Pitch - Division 1 Sue Stephens; Division 2 Robyn Moore; Division 3 Nancye Massingham.
The "Nowra Niners" (9 Hole Competition) was won by Kirsten Themsen with a creditable 64, also scoring her first "gobbler". Well done Kirsten. Second place was claimed by Jenny Manning and the Encouragement Award was taken out by Lorraine Frew. Keep up the good work ladies - you'll be playing the whole course before you know it. Next week our event is generously sponsored by Trish Austin. We will be playing a 2 Person Special 6's Team Stableford. This means that on holes 1 to 6 both scores are added together, then the scores are multiplied together on the next six holes (7 to 13) and on the final six holes the better score of the pair is recorded on the card. It's always a killer when you have to multiply points but it should be a lot of fun so please find a partner and support Trish's day. Don't forget it is a shotgun start at 8.30am.
If you are thinking of joining a Golf Club, there is no better time than now with the offer of three month's Gold membership for only $59. This offer is only available in March - so be quick.
