After defeating Queanbeyan in the opening round, Ozolins troops jumped out of the blocks at Belconnen to lead 27-8 after one quarter.
But the hosts outscored the black and gold 32-16 in the second period, to close the margin to just three points at half-time.
Despite the Gunners best efforts, the Tigers held the lead (64-61) heading into the final term.
In the fourth, the Tigers managed to stretch the lead to 76-65 with five minutes to play before the Gunners stormed back, to trial by just one point with 20 seconds to go after Will Mayfield hit a three-pointer.
But Will Ozolins calmly hit a free-throw in the final seconds, to seal the two point win.
"After a free-flowing start to the game, where we were finding the open shooters and pushing the ball up the floor, we went away from it in the next three quarters and let Canberra set the tempo," Ian Ozolins said.
"Despite this, we managed to grind out a win - in the past we have lost those games but all the boys showed maturity to secure the excellent road win.
"We couldn't have asked for a better start to the season, leading into our first home game of the season this Saturday against Dubbo."
Bruce Ozolins again top scored for the Tigers, netting 31, while Billy Campbell also played well with 15 - with coach Ozolins also highlighting the play of Tom Ozolins and Dane Jensen.
