More than 60 potential buyers inspected the G.J. Gardner Variety Freedom House on the weekend, which is set to be auctioned off for charity.
Joined by supporters, contributors and Variety families, South Coast MP Shelley Hancock officially opened the home on Saturday, March 9, and it will be open every Saturday for viewing in March from 10am to 11am until the auction on April 6, where all proceeds of the sale will go to Variety – the Children’s Charity.
The build attracted more than 80 business and individuals who donated time, material and expertise to enable this project to generate the biggest donation to Variety possible.
“Eighty local businesses and individuals involved, that’s what makes me very proud to be the member for South Coast," Mrs Hancock said.
"When people are in trouble this community comes together. We are a great, strong community and I congratulate anyone who’s had anything to do with this."
For Directors of G.J. Gardner Homes Shoalhaven Nathan Fay and Sean Vickery, the motivation behind this project came from a desire to support the local community, especially the families in it facing overwhelming hardship.
“I get goosebumps walking through this house seeing the passion the pride that I think is testament to what this community has created," Mr Fay said in a statement.
"I can’t wait to bring everyone through, get your feedback and look forward to an auction day on April 6, with proceeds going to a great cause with children in our community and seeing a lot of funds injected in our community to those who need it most."
The single level 4-bedroom home includes a range of features and extras including a master bedroom wing with private haven, an open plan kitchen with caesarstone benchtops, Smeg stainless steel appliances and butler’s pantry, ducted air conditioning, 3.3m raised ceiling lounge room and a large under cover alfresco area off the main living area.
Variety provides support through grants for children and families for things like mobility equipment and wheelchairs, communication devices and education aides and medical items and services.
