Individually there were many top 10 results and emerging talent.
Bronte Wright (seventh), Oliver Macken (eighth) Nellie Gray (10th), Jeremy Head ( 10th), Kioni Corton and Henry Gray displayed that consistent training over the winter months does pay dividends.
Vincentia was the best represented state school with the most participants.
The ideology to encourage as many students as possible, in a challenging sport with an emphasis on effort and enjoyment, certainly showed on team day.
Their junior mixed team of Mariah Vuockvic, Ryan Malfour and Jessica Alcott began the success with gold, followed by Bree Haig, Lachlan Woods and Joshua Murray taking bronze.
Not be outdone, the intermediate mixed team of Alix Luckman, Seth Kingma and Duncan Wilson also gained a top five result.
This inspired their senior mixed team of Bronte Wright, Jeremy Head and Nellie Gray to take second in the government division.
The results kept flowing, with more than 15 of their teams gaining top 10 positions in large fields in the government divisions.
Every one of the team students physically pushed their boundaries in very warm conditions.
This will be the final competition for year 12 students Nellie Gray, Jeremy Head, Jackie Milani, Teneisha Ross and Tilhaney Grainger and they were effusive in their comments about what it has meant to them over the years.
As the event drew to a close, Vincentia supporters were heard when a line of honour was formed at the finishing line, not only cheering their team seniors home but high-fiving every other competitor from fellow schools around the state.
What matters the most is the sportsmanship and respect for fellow competitors.
This mateship and pride connected to be of being part of Vincentia High brought much emotion to every parent and teacher in the stand watching on.
It is an amazing achievement to organise and kit out so many students and get them to Sydney with limited funding.
It is only possible with the support of many in the Vincentia High School community and a big thanks to Bikes at The Basin for their ongoing support and generosity.
