At the Queanbeyan Basketball Stadium, the Ian Ozolins coached side were slow out of the gates, trialling 19-13 after one quarter, before fighting back to lead by four at half-time.
From there, the black and gold never looked back - leading by three at the end of the third, before 22-8 final term sealed the 12-point win.
"There were probably some start of season nerves early, as we just couldn't score, but once we settled, we got into a nice rhythm," coach Ozolins said.
"Our second and third quarters were great defensively - we changed up into an extended zone and the Yowies really struggled to adjust.
"Then in the fourth, the boys found their groove, especially Nick Bizjak who hit three straight three-pointers, which iced the game for us."
While Ozolins is stoked with the win, in which every one of his 10 players scored, he is more impressed with how they translated their training into the game situation.
"We really worked hard on our defence in the pre-season and it's great to see the results paying off already," he said.
"Everyone bought in and did their role on Saturday and it's up to the group to build on this, especially going into another tough road trip at Canberra."
In the win, Bruce Ozolins top scored with 21, while both Bizjak and Tom Ozolins netted 14.
