It will be screened on Friday, March 22 at the Roxy Cinema, Nowra.
The Merger tells the story of former professional football player Troy Carrington who has returned home to Bodgy Creek after an abrupt end to his sporting career.
He is persuaded to coach the hapless local footy team, the Roosters, where he sees an opportunity to recruit refugees from the Regional Support Centre to turn the team’s fate around.
What follows is a comedy about a man seeking redemption, a team trying to reclaim victory, and a community coming to terms with the changing face of Australian rural life.
Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and celebrates cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
The free community event is organised by Illawarra Multicultural Services in partnership with Shoalhaven City Council and Local District Health.
Other organisations supporting the event include Bay and Basin Amnesty, Settlement Services International, Multicultural Communities Council Illawarra and AFL South Coast.
The screening will be followed by an open conversation on the issues highlighted by the film around cultural diversity and its impact on the building of community.
Free food and refreshments will be provided. Pre-booking is required. Get your tickets here.
