In his first game in charge of the new-look Tigers, Mustapic's troops found themselves only down by two points at quarter-time and four points at the main break.
In the third quarter, the hosts at the Queanbeyan Basketball Stadium went on a run and extended their lead to as many as 10 points.
But a 25-15 final term by the Tigers, saw them roar back into the match and send it into overtime, despite having chances to win in in regulation time.
In the extra five minutes of play, the Tigers couldn't keep their momentum going, eventually going down by one point.
In the loss, Georgia Joseph top scored for the Tigers with 19, while Maddison Blewitt (17), Mary-Jane Toole (eight) and Belinda Morris (eight) also played well.
